A Lawrenceville man recently entered a guilty plea for possessing a firearm while being a convicted felon.
A press release from the U.S. Attorney's Office in the Northern District of Georgia said Henry Jonathan Saravia, 35, was previously convicted of several violent felonies, including homicide by vehicle and aggravated assault.
Saravia reportedly fell asleep at the wheel while in Toccoa on May 2, 2021, blocking traffic in the process. A concerned citizen called 911 about the stopped vehicle. Stephens County Sheriff's deputies found Saravia asleep in the vehicle and his vehicle in drive.
As deputies removed Saravia from the vehicle they allegedly found a firearm in his waistband. Saravia was prohibited from possessing a firearm due to his prior convictions.
Sentencing for Saravia has not been scheduled at the time of writing.
The case is being investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Stephens County Sheriff's Office.
