A man originally from St. Croix was convicted Thursday, March 24 of invasion of privacy for crimes committed in Lawrenceville.

Lincoln Smith, 51, was sentenced in Gwinnett County Superior Court to five years imprisonment.

According to the Gwinnett County District Attorney's Office, Smith was sending suggestive and inappropriate text messages to a 24-year-old Lawrenceville woman. Smith also placed a hidden camera in her room without her permission.

At one point, Smith sent the victim a secret recording of her taken by the camera.

Smith was dating the victim's mother at the time. The victim told her mother about Smith, and the two called Gwinnett County Police.

Smith was questioned at the scene and admitted to placing cameras all around the home. He also admitted to sending the victim the video via Facebook.

However, at trial Smith claimed items of his were being taken, and he set up the cameras to catch whoever was taking them.
