A Stephens County deputy standing outside his patrol car was hospitalized Sunday evening after a fleeing vehicle collided with the car, causing it to strike the officer.

The Georgia State Patrol says at 6:11 p.m. they were notified of an incident involving patrol vehicles from the Toccoa Police Department and Stephens County Sheriff's Department that were involved in collisions with a then-unidentified suspect.

"Upon arrival at North Pine Street in Toccoa, a Trooper noticed a 2011 white Toyota Corolla driven by Ms. Jennifer Ashley Mock, age 35, with a Winterville, Georgia address, that had fled from both agencies and struck the patrol vehicles," said Georgia State Patrol SFC D.O Saddler late Sunday evening. "We also noticed that the Toccoa Police Dodge Charger had continued in the pursuit while the Stephens County Patrol was disabled."

Mock had already been taken into custody when troopers arrived on the scene to provide assistance.

SFC Sadler said that during the incident an unidentified Stephens County deputy, who was outside his patrol vehicle for unspecified reasons, had apparently been injured after the suspect drove the Toyota into his patrol vehicle, which then struck the officer.

The suspect then fled the scene, hitting a Toccoa Police Department patrol vehicle in the process.

The injured officer was transported to Stephens County Hospital for treatment in unknown condition.

"Both Toccoa Police and Stephens County will be handling charges, not Georgia State Patrol since we only worked the crashes," SFC Sadler added. "We are working to gather all of the facts and other information."

AccessWDUN has reached out to Stephens County authorities for more details. This story will be updated when more information becomes available.
