A Lawrenceville man is being held in the Barrow County Jail after allegedly kidnapping his ex-girlfriend on the Athens Technical College campus Thursday night.

Jimmy Hernando Aguilar Garzon, 26, faces charges of kidnapping, false imprisonment, hindering a 911 call, entering auto and stalking, according to a report by the Athens Banner-Herald.

Garzon's victim, a 23-year-old Athens woman, was rescued by local law enforcement after a pursuit in Barrow County. The victim suffered non-disclosed injuries after a Barrow County deputy ended the pursuit by performing a PIT maneuver on Ga. 316.

The Banner-Herald reports that the incident began around 9 p.m. Thursday when the the victim was approached by Garzon inside the Athens Tech library. Garzon, who had once dated the victim for approximately one year, apparently wanted to discuss their relationship.

The victim - who later told police that she had been repeatedly harassed by Garzon while at school, work and home - informed Garzon that she did not wish to speak to him, and threatened to call police if not left alone.

A short time later, the victim entered her vehicle in the library parking lot. She was then approached by Garzon, who allegedly took her phone.

The woman exited her vehicle, running away from Garzon through the parking lot, but was chased and caught by the suspect. Garzon then dragged her back to his own vehicle and shoved her inside.

While Garzon drove toward the Athens Perimeter, the Banner-Herald reports that the woman unsuccessfully attempted to open a locked door.

The westbound vehicle eventually entered Barrow County, where deputies had been notified of either an intoxicated driver or “rolling domestic” on Ga. 316.

A brief traffic stop was initiated, but Garzon apparently drove away at high speeds after a deputy approached his vehicle. After pursuing the vehicle for an undisclosed amount of time, the deputy ended the chase by successfully performing a PIT maneuver.

The victim later told authorities that she believed the suspect was taking her to his Lawrenceville home.

According to the Athens Banner-Herald, as of Friday, Garzon was being held in the Barrow County Jail without bond.
