One person at Dacula Elementary School in Gwinnett County has reportedly tested positive for monkeypox.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Monday afternoon that Principal Holly Warren sent out a letter about the case to students' families on Friday.
District spokesman Bernard Watson told the AJC that the person was tested by GNR Public Health. The district has not released whether the person is an employee or student at the school.
Warren told families in her letter that the risk of transmission was minimal. Staff reportedly cleaned and disinfected all affected areas.
Gwinnett County Schools is conducting contact tracing using guidelines from the CDC. Families of a child who had close contact with the individual who tested positive will receive a notice.
Parents who believe their child may have monkeypox are asked to contact a primary care physician and school nurse.
