A man was shot and killed Saturday in the 1100 block of Rose Terrace Circle in Loganville.

According to a press release from the Gwinnett County Police Department, arriving officers found Daniel Covington, 31, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to the hospital where he died.

Kendell Evans, 23, was also on the scene when officers arrived. The Gwinnett County Police Department reported that he cooperated with the investigation.

Evans told authorities that he arrived at the location to attend a family event when Covington approached him and started a verbal argument with him. Covington then challenged Evans to a physical fight which Evans refused.

Evans said he attempted to get away from Covington, but Covington pursued him. Evans believed that Covington was armed and was going to shoot him.

Evans confirmed that he shot Covington to protect himself from being shot.  There was evidence at the scene that supported Evans’ statements.

The investigation is still ongoing, but no charges have been filed at this time.
