OAKWOOD, Ga. — The Johnson girls and East Hall boys both moved into the main bracket of the Lanierland tournament with wins on Saturday in the play-in games.
The Lady Knights took a 41-24 victory over West Hall while East Hall routed the Johnson boys, 85-42.
For the Lady Knights (3-3) they erased an early 8-5 deficit with a 22-point second quarter to take control. Destiny Ramirez hit three 3-pointers as part of her game-high 12 points in the period to help Johnson take a 27-10 halftime lead.
The Johnson defense also held the Lady Spartans to just one Cayla Radich field goal in the quarter as well.
The win puts Johnson back in Lanierland after missing out last season.
Bianca Luc had 10 points and Harbor Landers 7 as seven different players scored for Johnson.
Yatsar Matos paced West Hall (0-4) with 8 points. Kihanna Rich and Anabelle Castaneda each had 5 points for the Lady Spartans.
For the Vikings boys, they opened the game with a 19-9 first quarter and then followed with a 19-7 second quarter to take a 38-16 lead. They blew it open for good with a 37-point third quarter to push the lead to 75-30.
Senior Chris Alford paced East Hall (4-1) with 24 points, including shooting 8-of-12 from 3-point range. Chasen Jones added 10 points, Brayden Langston had 9, and Caden Crocker 8 points as 11 players scored for the Vikings.
East Hall will jump back into Region 8-4A action playing host to North Hall on Tuesday.
Johnson (0-6) will travel to Chestatee on Tuesday in Region 8-4A play as well.
