Georgia Public Service Commission Vice Chairman Tim Echols was named a finalist for the Lifetime Achievement award at the Platts Global Energy Awards.

Echols was honored at a ceremony hosted by S&P Global on Dec. 7th in New York.

“It is an honor to be selected as a finalist in the lifetime achievement category in these Global Energy Awards,” Echols said. “There are so many worthy finalists up for this award.”

In a release, GPS officials said Georgia is ranked fourth in the nation for installed solar because of Echols’ efforts.

“On behalf of the members of Georgia SEIA, I would like to congratulate Georgia Public Service Commissioner Tim Echols who was named as a finalist for the Global Energy Awards Lifetime Achievement Award,” Georgia Solar Energy Industry Association President Pete Corbett said. “Commissioner Echols has been a valued friend to the community solar industry and a leader in advancing solar policy in Georgia.”

Echols founded the Electric Vehicle Braintrust and the Hydrogen Energy Braintrust and was presented with the Innovator of the Year Award from the Smart Grid Customer Education Symposium.

“Tim Echols brings energy, innovation, commitment, and caring for others to everything he does, always leading from the head and the heart,” President of Gas South Kevin Greiner said. “He has been instrumental in encouraging the testing and adoption of new energy technologies, while also ensuring that energy is affordable and reliable for everyone.”

After the Westinghouse bankruptcy, Echols led the efforts to complete the Vogtle nuclear plant officials said.
