The Georgia Mountain Food Bank partnered with 17 area schools to collect food that will provide meals during the winter.
The ‘School Food Drive Challenge’ held between Oct. 31- Nov. 10 provided the food bank with up to 33,164 Ibs. of food for winter meals.
A release from the food bank said participating schools raised 19,588 Ibs. of food in total.
Chestnut Mountain Creative School of Inquiry placed first with students donating a total of 3,842 lbs.
World Language Academy collected 2,609 Ibs. and earned second place.
Riverside Military Academy came in third place with 1,916 lbs collected by students.
“This year we had more schools participating in the food drive challenge than ever. Next year, we are going to encourage the schools in the other four counties we serve to participate as well,” Executive Director Rebecca Thurman said.
