The Georgia Department of Transportation announced Monday evening plans to install a new left turn lane in Gainesville on Jesse Jewell Parkway westbound onto E E Butler Parkway's southbound lanes.
According to a press release from GDOT, GDOT and contractor Backbone Infrastructure will install the new lane in the evening, post-rush hour, weather permitting. Work will begin Tuesday evening and will continue through April 30 from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. the following morning. Some asphalt work may be done during daylight hours.
Once the project is completed, each direction of the intersection will have two left-turn lanes. The work will also include a signal upgrade with two left turn lights for the new traffic flow.
Delays are anticipated while the project is underway.
"Exact dates may change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are cautioned to reduce their speed while traveling through work zones, stay alert, and watch for workers," the release reads. "Before heading out, get real-time information on work status and traffic conditions by calling 511, visiting 511ga.org, or downloading the Georgia 511 app."
