Forsyth County officials announced Thursday evening a traffic shift that will open the Browns Bridge Road at State Route 400 overpass for east and westbound traffic.
The bridge is slated to open at 9 p.m. on Monday, weather permitting. According to a release, the traffic shift will result in the original signaled intersection at Browns Bridge Road and SR 400 being removed. Two additional traffic shifts will be necessary as crews work to install ramps.
Northbound SR 400 traffic will be detoured starting 9 p.m. Monday at exit 17 up onto Keith Bridge Road. Those trying to continue north of SR 400 will take a right on Keith Bridge Road eastbound, make a left turn onto Browns Bridge Road westbound and continue to the new intersection at the relocated entrance to Browns Bridge Church. At that point, motorists can turn right to merge back on SR 400 northbound via the new on-ramp.
Officials state the closure of traffic between exits 17 and 18 is to allow for the construction of the SR 400 northbound exit ramp. Work will reportedly be complete Tuesday morning.
Southbound SR 400 traffic will not have access to Browns Bridge Road following Monday night’s construction. For 15 days following the initial closure, crews will be working to finalize the southbound exit from SR 400 onto Browns Bridge Road. Forsyth County officials have provided the following recommendations for detour routes:
- Take exit 17 (SR 306), turn right to travel westbound to SR 9, which connects to SR 369.
- Take exit 17 (SR 306), turn left to travel eastbound to SR 369.
- Take exit 17 (SR 306), turn left to travel eastbound, then take SR 400 NB ramp to SR 369.
Reports indicate the signalized intersection at Martin Road will also be closed and subsequently removed starting at 9 p.m. Monday. Access to Martin Road eastbound will be limited to right turns off SR 400. Martin Road access heading westbound will be limited to SR 400 southbound traffic. Motorists will still be able to merge onto SR 400 from Martin Road with a right turn out.
