Rain moves NASCAR Cup race at Dover to Monday

Posted 11:19AM on Sunday 30th April 2023 ( 1 year ago )

With a steady rain coming down over the Dover Motor Speedway Sunday morning, NASCAR officials made the call to push the NASCAR Cup Series race to Monday afternoon at noon.

It’s the second straight year that Mother Nature has delayed the Cup Series race at the “Monster Mile” by a day. Last year, Chase Elliott scored the win on a Monday.

Rain has been a factor all weekend at Dover. Friday’s scheduled events, including qualifying for the NASCAR Xfinity Series and the ARCA Menards Series East event were washed out. More rains on Saturday morning saw NCS pole qualifying washed out, although the weather cooperated to get both the NXS and ARCA East races in the books.

With Cup qualifying washed out, Kyle Busch will bring the field to the green flag from the pole on Monday. Christopher Bell will roll off second, with Ryan Blaney third, Brad Keselowski fourth, and Chris Buescher fifth.

Chase Briscoe, Tyler Reddick, William Byron, Ricky Stenhouse, Jr., and Elliott will round out the top 10 starters.

WDUN will carry live PRN Radio coverage of Monday's rain delayed NASCAR Cup Series Wurth 400 from Dover Motor Speedway beginning at 11 am on 102.9 FM and streaming live on AccessWDUN.
