A suspicious person call Wednesday evening in South Hall resulted in a large drug bust involving high quantities of fentanyl and methamphetamine worth $275,000.

At approximately 9:50 p.m. Wednesday, Hall County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the 7000 block of Williams Road to a call of an unknown man walking outside of the caller’s home, knocking on the door, according to county officials. Once deputies arrived on the scene, they saw a man getting out of an SUV and running away on foot.

The man, later identified as Michael Gonzalez-Powell, 30, of Gainesville, fled the area, ignoring commands from authorities to stop

A HCSO K9 unit was dispatched and tracked Gonzalez-Powell, who had a warrant for felony probation violation. At approximately 11:45 p.m., Gonzalez-Powell was found and arrested near the original location of the SUV.

Due to the arrest, Gonzalez-Powell’s SUV had to be towed, which required the deputies to inventory the vehicle. Inside, they found large quantities of suspected fentanyl and methamphetamine and immediately called investigators with the Special Investigation Unit.

Warrants were obtained on alleged charges of trafficking both drugs. Investigators reportedly seized 800 grams of fentanyl and 500 grams of methamphetamine, with a combined worth of approximately $275,000 street value.

Gonzalez-Powell was also allegedly charged with misdemeanor obstruction of an officer for running from deputies. He remained in the Hall County Jail without bond at the last report.

This case is currently under investigation by the SIU, as additional charges are pending.
