The construction team behind downtown Gainesville’s new Gainesville Renaissance building recently received top honors at the 2023 Association of General Contractors Build Georgia Awards.
According to a press release, Carroll Daniel Construction was given a first-place award for construction excellence on the new building during the annual convention at the Omni Amelia Island Resort in Florida.
Gainesville Renaissance was one of five projects built by Carroll Daniel Construction that earned recognition by ACG Georgia in 2023.
The building, which is managed by Roddy Properties, was built on the “fourth side of the square,” in downtown Gainesville. The 60,000 square-feet mixed-use, three-story development includes first-floor retail space and second-floor administrative offices and classroom space for Brenau University’s Lynn J. Darby School of Psychology and Adolescent Counseling.
The third floor of the building houses eight private residences, each offering balcony space to a view of the downtown square. A private bridge from the third floor of the nearby parking deck provides access to the entrance of the residences.
Occupants can access all three floors of the building from a main elevator at the center of the development.
“On the first floor, this elevator opens up to a lobby area that features Olympic memorabilia donated by Doug Ivester — former chairman and CEO of The Coca-Cola Co. — who purchased the property for the development a little over two years ago,” the press release reads. “Ivester is also a long-serving member of the Brenau University Board of Trustees, among many other notable organizations.”
The final part of the project was the building of Renaissance Park, which connects to Roosevelt Square and Brenau’s Theater on the square.
The project was designed by the architectural firm Robertson Loia Roof, P.C. Dozens of local subcontractors also assisted with the project.
“The entire Renaissance Building and surrounding outdoor seating areas were designed and constructed to blend in seamlessly with the aesthetic of downtown Gainesville,” Doug Ivester said. “We are proud to continue to contribute to the beauty of downtown and to have partnered with a firm like Carroll Daniel who is continually recognized for their quality work.”
