CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Buford got off to a slow start but battled back into the game, taking their first lead early in the fourth quarter and holding on to down Mallard Creek, 10-7, Friday night.
After Mallard Creek scored with 5:01 in the first quarter on a 79-yard TD pass, the Wolves defense clamped down and didn't allow anything else to touch the scoreboard.
Buford tied the game up on a K.J. Bolden receiving touchdown of 41 yards from Dylan Raiola early in the third quarter before Mario Ventura nailed a 40-yard field goal with 11:12 to play to take the 10-7 lead.
The Wolves had one last defensive stand in the waning moments of the game, keeping Mallard Creek out of the endzone and kneeling the clock down to the final horn to improve to 2-0.
In total, Buford finished with 267 yards of offense, led by 174 yards through the air from Raiola.
Buford will travel to North Cobb next week for an 8 p.m. kickoff.
