Forsyth County officials said Thursday that a sewage spill was discovered in the southern part of the county, where over 1,000 gallons of sewage spilled into Bagely Creek.

The spill occurred near 3072 Cross Creek Drive in the Pinnacle Glen subdivision. Approximately 1,200 gallons of sewage reportedly spilled into Bagley Creek, according to Communications Assistant Director Amanda Roper.

The cause of the spill was the result “of blockage in the gravity sewer line caused by a buildup of grease and rags,” Roper said.

The ground affected by the spill has reportedly been cleaned up and treated with lime. The county is currently taking precautions and complying with the Environmental Protection Division guidelines.

The EPD was notified of the incident, and stream monitoring has begun and will continue for up to one year, according to officials.
