Northeast Georgia History Center to present the history of Newtown Florist Club

The Northeast Georgia History Center hosts a monthly presentation on the second Tuesday during the academic year with guest speakers.

On Tuesday, September 12th, Rev. Rose Johnson will present on the history of the Newtown Florist Club.

The Newtown Florist Club was created informally in Gainesville after the devastating 1936 tornado and officially in 1950.

The Newtown neighborhood in Gainesville was constructed for African-Americans who were displaced after the 1936 tornado. Rev. Johnson will share the experiences, challenges, and triumphs of the Newtown Florist Club members and their stories at the Northeast Georgia History Center.

Admission is free for Members of the Northeast Georgia History Center and $5 for non-members at the door. The History Center is located at 322 Academy Street NE, Gainesville, GA 30501.
