“Hometown Backyard Barbeque” will be held Saturday from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Lake Lanier Olympic Park in Gainesville, featuring food, live bands and the UGA football game.

The tailgating-themed event is being thrown in celebration of Habitat for Humanity’s achievements and for those who have made them possible, according to Outreach Coordinator Holly Johnson.

Those in attendance will have the opportunity to enjoy live music from different bands, a DJ, panel discussions, onsite vendors, food trucks, a cornhole tournament and a live screening of the Georgia versus Auburn game.

Admission to the event is free and open to any who are interested.

Habitat for Humanity of Hall County was founded in 1989 and has since rehabilitated 69 homes for county citizens. The nonprofit Christian organization reportedly succeeds through the support of community partners, corporate sponsors and volunteer labor.

The recipients of each Habitat for Humanity home have traditionally completed 360 hours of required “sweat equity,” which is the organizational term used for volunteer labor completed through the construction of other partners’ homes, financial educational courses and home maintenance classes.

“Through the continued support and generosity of ardent volunteers, Habitat for Humanity facilitates transformational growth to local families by bridging the gap to accessible homeownership through affordable mortgages,” Johnson said.
