Ongoing sewer work will begin to cause closures on Dixon Drive in Gainesville starting Thursday.
City officials announced Wednesday that water main upgrades along the corridor have now been completed, and crews are now preparing to begin replacing the area's sewer main. As a result, some stretches of Dixon Drive will be closed during the project over the next three months.
A map released by the city shows that the first phase of the project will close Dixon Drive just west of its intersection with Wessell Road. The following phase will shift the road closure to the east side of that intersection, between Wessel Road and Bradford Street, with the third phase closing the road just east of Bradford Street.
City officials said all residents will have access to their driveways, but they said detours will need to be used to bypass the closed sections of the roadway. The detours recommended by the city primarily use Wessell Road and Bradford Street to connect with nearby Piedmont Road and Stillwood Drive.
Officials also said Dixon Drive will be repaved in the area when the work is completed. The work will take place Mondays through Fridays from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
