A former Habersham County School Resource Officer (SRO) was arrested and charged on Wednesday.
The arrest of 47-year-old David Matthew Jackels of Cornelia comes after the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) conducted an independent investigation into him at the request of Habersham County Sheriff Joey Terrell.
The investigation was into allegations surrounding Jackels’ “interaction with students.”
Terrell requested the GBI’s aid in February of this year.
Jackels was charged with violation of oath of office by a public officer and false statements.
He was booked into the Habersham County Detention Center, but has reportedly been released on $7,500 bond on Friday.
