A former Gainesville City School System bus driver was arrested on Wednesday, Oct. 9 on over 20 child pornography charges in Jackson County.
Gainesville superintendent Jeremy Williams said they were notified by Gainesville Police Chief Jay Parrish that Albert Hutchinson, 46, of Gainesville, was arrested.
Hutchinson was charged with 21 counts of possession or control of any material depicting a minor in sexually explicit conduct and 14 counts of possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of a felony.
Williams says Hutchinson has been terminated by the school system since the arrest.
“When we were alerted by the Jackson County Sheriff's Office via Chief Jay Parrish, we immediately pulled the fingerprint background check and his application,” Williams said. “We confirmed there were no previous criminal charges or flags raised by references.”
Williams added they did not release any information because the criminal charges were not connected to his employment with GCSS.
“Furthermore, we never received any concerns or complaints regarding inappropriate contact with students,” Williams said. “If the charges had involved GCSS technology or questionable interaction with students, families would have been alerted.”
Williams said Chief Parrish told him that no Gainesville students were victims or exposed to any criminal acts by Hutchinson.
Jackson County Sheriff Janis Mangum said Hutchinson was arrested on a warrant from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. The GBI has not released further information about the case as of Thursday evening.
According to Jackson County jail records Hutchinson remains in the jail with no bond.
