Law enforcement officials in Forsyth County and across the region are paying respects and remembering the life of a local Sheriff's Office deputy this week, following his death over the past weekend.

Deputy Wayne Bemis passed away on Sunday, October 27 at the age of 53, following service to Forsyth County officials for nearly 5 years.

Social media page for Forsyth's Sheriff's Office says Deputy Bemis' death followed an off-duty medical emergency several weeks ago.

Residents and area law enforcement paid their respects to Deputy Bemis during services Monday in Dahlonega and at McDonald and Sons Funeral Home in Cumming.

Deputy Wayne Bemis, Jr. is survived by his wife Samantha, his daughter Becca and his son Bryan.
