November 1 each year is traditionally the day that residents can take part in open enrollment for heath insurance coverge, both locally and nationally. Georgia residents have bought discounted health insurance plans on the federal website HealthCare.gov. for years, Today, for the first time, the state launches its own website, GeorgiaAccess.gov. for coverage options.
The GeorgiaAccess site is offering information behind their consumer portal, connectivity to support for additional resources on health insurance options, and a link to view other health care options available to statewide resident. This is meant to be a separate choice outside of the federal HealthCare.gov, also recognized by many as Obamacare.
Georgia Insurance Commissioner John King believes other states might follow their lead, as King recently told the Atlanta Journal Constitution, “They’re going to see the opportunity to take control away from Washington and bring it back to the state where it should be in the first place."
King says that he will be closely watching how many residents in Georgia will sign up. A link to view Georgia's newest option for health insurance coverage options can be found here.
