A minor bump upward in gas prices has been detected at the pumps this week, both locally and nationally.
AAA of Georgia's price chart shows the average price for unleaded gas is up one penny from last week in Georgia, to $2.91 per gallon, as of (Monday) today, and up the same penny nationally from one week ago, at $3.02 per gallon.
Montrae Waiters of AAA says the slight hike in gas demand, coupled with recent lower costs for oil have cancelled out any severe price hikes or drops over the past five weeks. “The lackluster movement can be attributed to a marginally higher demand for gasoline and a lower cost for oil canceling each other out, however, higher demand and a rise in crude oil prices could nudge pump prices higher ahead of Christmas.”
Monday's state average is 1 cent more than a week ago, 3 cents less than a month ago, and 6 cents less than this time last year. It costs drivers an average price of $43.65 to fill a 15-gallon tank of regular gasoline. Georgians now pay 45 cents less to fill up at the pump compared to a month ago.
In Hall County, commuters are paying an average price of $2.88 per gallon as of Monday (prices subject to change), the the lowest average in northeast Georgia is found in Hart County at $2.70, with the highest average price found in Union County, at $2.98 per gallon.
