Northeast Georgia Health System has added six new fellows to Northeast Georgia Medical Center’s Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship Program.

NGHS officials said this addition brings the total number of fellows training in heart health at NGMC Gainesville and Braselton campuses to 17.

“The new fellows will work side-by-side with the physicians and staff of Georgia Heart Institute, as well as our current fellows, to provide even more eyes on our patients’ care,” Ugochukwu Egolum, MD, program director of the Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship program said. “As Georgia’s most forward-thinking heart and vascular program, we use our exceptional resources in clinical care, research, innovation and education to train the future leaders of cardiovascular care for our region and beyond.”

For doctors to become board-certified cardiologists they must complete a residency program in internal medicine before beginning a cardiology fellowship.

The NGMC Cardiovascular Disease fellows include:

The fellowship program is a three-year program that offers six fellowship slots per year.

“We are so excited to welcome six new Cardiovascular Disease fellows, including two who have strong ties to Georgia,” John E. Delzell, Jr., MD, vice president of Medical Education for NGHS and Designated Institutional Official for NGMC said. “Fellowship match is very competitive, and the best candidates can train anywhere. We are excited they are choosing NGMC right alongside Vanderbilt, Emory and other elite programs, which indicates we are providing an intellectually stimulating environment for clinical learning, research, education and outreach.”

Fellows will begin work on July 1, 2025.
