A woman was killed and a man was transported for injuries after the two were shot early Tuesday morning at an encampment near Dorsey St. in Gainesville.

The Gainesville Police Department  responded to the  scene just before 4 a.m. on Tuesday. When officers arrived, the victims were shot, while the perpetrator fled the scene, according to a Facebook post from the department.

One victim, identified as Ashley Marie Hill of Gainesville, was pronounced dead at the scene. The second victim, Marcus Robinson, 36, of Gainevsille, was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center for treatment.

A witness to the shooting and other occupants of the camp helped officers identify Demetrius Few, 37, of Gainesville, as the suspect in the case. Gainesville Police Officers and Hall County Sheriff's Deputies located Few in the area and took him into custody.  Investigators worked throughout the day to develop the case and locate evidence, the post said.

Few faces charges of Malice Murder and Aggravated Assault and is being held at the Hall County Jail. Further charges  may be pending, as the case remains under investigation.

Demetrius Few, 37, of Gainesville, was arrested on Dec. 24, 2024 and charged with Malice Murder and Aggravated Assault.
