Wrestling: Buford, NoFo, Jefferson, NHall, Lumpkin, Union, Commerce all take Traditional Area titles

The first leg of the Traditional State wrestling title saw several northeast Georgia area teams get off to strong starts on Saturday.

Teams accumulated points through individual matches in each weight class. The second part of the Traditional format will be held next week in the Sectionals.

In the Area 7-3A meet at Lumpkin County, the Indians, fresh off a State Duals state title, rolled to the win with 271 points. White County finished second with 198.5 points and Dawson County was third with 191 points.

Defending Class 5A Traditional state champion Jefferson dominated the Area 8-5A event at Eastside High School, wracking up 271 points for the win. Flowery Branch held off host Eastside for second, 189.5 to 184.

At Collins Hill in the Area 8-7A tournament, Buford piled up a massive 299 points to win the event. Mill Creek was a distant second with 226.5 points.

In Area 8-6A, host North Forsyth held off Jackson County for the title. The Raiders had 247 points to the Panthers 229.5. Gainesville took fourth with 168 points and Habersham Central was fifth with 165 points.

North Hall won the Area 8-4A traditional tournament held at Walnut Grove Grove. The Trojans held off North Oconee 217.5 to 205.5 to grab the title. Chestatee took third with 195 points. East Forsyth finished fifth with 128 points.

In the Area 8-2A tournament at Fannin County, Union County won a thrilling three-way duel with East Jackson and Banks County. The Panthers amassed 175 points to 162 for the Eagles and 159 for the Leopards.

Commerce won the Area 8-A tournament, piling up 254 points to hold off Oglethorpe County at Elbert County.
