Baseball: No. 1 Bluff stays unbeaten; GHS, Chestatee take road wins

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. — Class 4A No. 1-ranked Cherokee Bluff stayed perfect on the young season with a dominating 8-0 win over North Atlanta on Monday at home.

KT Thompson, Ty Corbin, and Garrett Harper all drove in two runs each for the Bears (4-0), who used a five-run fourth inning to blow open a close game.
 
Gabe Gowder got the win for Bluff going four innings, allowing no runs and no hits while striking out six and walking three.

GAINESVILLE 1,
LUMPKIN COUNTY 0 (9 inn)

Gainesville’s Branson Crawford and Dawson Vaughn combined on a five-hit shutout in leading the Red Elephants to a win in nine innings.

Vaughn also knocked in the only run with a single driving in pinch-runner James Cobb and then struck out Lumpkin’s Tyler Boggs to end the game to preserve the win.

Crawford went six innings giving up four hits and fanning six. Vaughn pitched the final three innings for the Red Elephants (2-2).

Alejandro Narvaez started the game for Lumpkin County, allowing just one hit while striking out eight and walking one in seven innings. Mason Hester took the loss for the Indians surrendering four hits and a run over two innings.

Hester had two of the five Lumpkin County hits.

Cooper Reid, Baxter Wright, and Asher Stephens all had one hit for Gainesville.


CHESTATEE 13,
WEST HALL 6

Eli Chaffin had three hits and Brock Moody and Ethan Dunn each drove in two runs to lead the War Eagles to a road win on Monday at West Hall Park.

It was the second straight win for the War Eagles (2-3) while West Hall (1-3) dropped its third straight.

Chestatee never trailed, scoring three in the first and three in the third to take a 6-2 lead. The War Eagles added two in the fourth before the Spartans plated three in the fifth to pull with 8-5. But Chestatee scored three in the sixth and two more in the seventh.

Dylan Thompson got the win for Chestatee giving up two runs (one earned) on four hits in three innings, striking out three. Brock Moody pitched the final four innings in relief, allowing four runs (one earned) on just two hits while striking out four.

Marcus Pugh took the loss for West Hall surrendering eight runs on seven hits in 3 1/3 innings.

Wesley Gossett and Thomas Martens, and Dunn all had two hits for Chestatee.

Justin Shaffer had two hits for West Hall.
