Police officers from Cumming rescued an injured Great Horned Owl that was located on the side of Ga. 400 Thursday morning.
A social media post by the Chattahoochee Nature Center Wildlife Rehabilitation in Roswell said the officers transported the owl to their facility.
"The owl arrived nearly non-responsive and had sustained severe trauma. She had blood in her mouth and throat, is exhibiting anisocoria (pupils of two different sizes), and is currently blind," Thursday's post said. "Additionally, she has deep bruising and abrasions to her abdomen, and little use of her right leg."
A post by the Cumming Police Department identified the officers who recovered the owl as Sarah Brecher and Gabe Bunch.
"They quickly took action, transporting it to Chattahoochee Nature Center Wildlife Rehabilitation," the police department's post said. "Hoping for a speedy recovery so it can soar once again over Cumming!"
The nature center said the owl has been given medications, but that the prognosis is "guarded."
No information has been released on how the owl was injured or why it was on the side of Ga. 400.
