The Gainesville Department of Water Resources stopped a sewer spill into an unnamed tributary to Balus Creek Thursday afternoon.
The City of Gainesville received a report at 12:54 p.m. of an overflowing sanitary sewer manhole located on the 4400 block of Beechnut View where wastewater discharge was flowing into the tributary to Balus Creek.
City staff determined a sewer choke caused the discharge, according to a release. The correction was made and flow was restored by 2 p.m.
DWR estimated that 3,300 gallons flowed into the tributary. The area of the spill was assessed, but no dead or stressed aquatic life was found.
All field parameters for water quality were within state water quality standards, the city said Friday.
The Georgia Department of Natural Resources Environmental Protection Division was notified Thursday afternoon and signs were posted at the site of the spill.
