Baseball: Regions 7-3A, 8-2A are in full swing on Tuesday with key matchups

Regions 7-3A and 8-2A will be in full swing on Tuesday.

Every team in 8-2A will be in action on Tuesday with six of the seven in 7-3A playing each other as both regions open new three-game series this week.

Region 7-3A has a logjam at the top for first place, with No. 2 Pickens (12-3, 5-1 Region 7-3A) leading No. 9 Dawson County (10-4, 4-2 Region 7-3A) and Lumpkin County (8-6, 4-2 Region 7-3A) by just one game. The Tigers travel Wesleyan (4-7, 1-2 Region 7-3A) to open a series; Lumpkin County travels to last place Gilmer (6-7, 0-3 Region 7-3A); and Pickens heads to West Hall (4-11, 2-4 Region 7-3A) to open a three-game series. The Spartans are tied with White County (8-8, 2-4 Region 7-3A) which not playing region games this week, for fourth place.

In Region 8-2A, Banks County, Union County, and Athens Academy all are tied for the early lead after last week region-opening series. The key series this week is Banks County (8-5, 2-1 Region 8-2A) opening a series with Athens Academy (6-5, 2-1 Region 8-2A) in Watkinsville. Union County (5-4, 2-1 Region 8-2A) heads to Providence Christian (6-8, 1-2 Region 8-2A) to begin a series.

East Jackson (7-8, 1-2 Region 8-2A) heads to Fellowship Christian (6-7, 1-2 Region 8-2A) to open a series as well.
