Girls soccer: Johnson moves into 3rd in 8-4A; Bluff sets up 8-4A title match

WALNUT GROVE, Ga. — Johnson moved into third place in Region 8-4A with a 3-0 win over Walnut Grove on Tuesday.

Liz Rivera scored two first half goals for the Lady Knights (9-3-1, 7-2 Region 8-4A), who jumped a half-game ahead of Walnut Grove (9-6, 6-2 Region 8-4A) with the victory.

Vicky Arteaga added a goal off a Rivera assist in the second half.

The Lady Knights will close out their region schedule against East Hall on Friday at home.

The ninth-ranked Lady Bears (12-3, 9-0 Region 8-4A) won their ninth-straight game and set up a one-game showdown for the region title on Thursday.

Bristol Kersh netted five goals to lead the offensive onslaught. Lanny Hammond, Genesis Gamez, Ashley Scott, Samantha Diaz, and Carson DeMars all had one goal for Cherokee Bluff.

Gamez and Kersh each added a pair of assists and DeMars had one assist for the Lady Bears.

Cherokee Bluff next will play host to North Oconee (10-2-1, 8-0 Region 8-4A) on Thursday with the winner claiming the region title.

The Johnson girls moved into third place in Region 8-4A with a road win over Walnut Grove on Tuesday.
