Good News Clinics revealed its newest expansion with a ribbon cutting ceremony Friday.
The Gainesville-based Christian non-profit provides free medical and dental care to Hall County residents without medical insurance who cannot afford to purchase healthcare services. The organization has over 150 medical, dental, and specialists providers who volunteer their services to the clinics.
The North Georgia Health System Education Center is the first building to be completed in the organization’s Greater Things Expansion Project , which aims to increase capacity and patient services within the community. The $8 million campaign launched in January 2022.
During the ceremony commemorating the expansion, Good News Clinic Executive Director Liz Coates shared her excitement for the new space.
“Today symbolizes a few things…” she said. “And I think it symbolizes a body made up of many, many parts. If you look at all the sectors, and all the people it takes to make Good News Clinics happen, you form a healthy healthy organization and a healthy space to make the community well.”
The completed project features administrative spaces, offices for counseling services, a chapel, and a patient education room.
Dr. David Westfall, volunteer and founding physician of Good News Clinics shared the expansion will not only enable the non-profit to maintain the services it offers, but also will give staff resources to educate their patients on several health related topics.
“We continue to offer medical exams, medical follow up care for patients,” Dr. Westfall said. “We have our own pharmacy that is able to provide a lot of the medications that people need. We have wonderful volunteer doctors here that come to the clinic, we have others that will accept our referrals into their own office called 'Health Access'. And those are the primary things we do, but we also do patient education. For instance, if someone has diabetes, there's a lot of counseling that they need to be able to manage their disease. We have nutritionists talking to people about healthy eating, we have physical therapy.”
Good News Clinics also encourages health within the community through its on-site farmers market. The organization receives produce from Jaymore Farms at cost and sells it at cost to the community every Wednesday from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.
The new building is located at 629 High Street Gainesville, Georgia, 30501 directly behind the clinics’ Pine Street building.
