Clayton woman charged with arson after apartment complex fire

A Clayton woman was arrested early Thursday, May 2 after she allegedly set an apartment complex on fire

A report from the Clayton Police Department said Judy Callenback, 60 was allegedly seen lighting things on fire at an apartment complex located at 393 Shady Side DR in Clayton. 

Callenback's neighbor said he was asleep on his couch when he saw lights outside his window he then got up to check. He said he saw Callenback lighting objects on fire and heard her make threats toward him. 

The neighbor told officers he retrieved a gallon water jug to extinguish the fire and in the process, threw water on Callenback.

The neighbor reportedly told officers he had no contact with Callenback before the incident.

Officers retrieved Callenback from her apartment complex and reportedly witnessed her wearing wet clothes. 

She was also unsteady on her feet, slurring her speech and smelled of alcohol according to officers.

The Director of the apartment told officers that security cameras captured Callenback lighting objects on fire.

She was charged with arson, terroristic threats and acts, aggravated assault and public drunkenness. 

Callenback remains in the Rabun County Jail without bond.
