Original story published 12:35 p.m. Wednesday:

Authorities say a pickup truck overturned on I-985 in Gainesville Tuesday afternoon, spilling a trailer load of lumber and leading to a multi-vehicle pileup that snarled traffic during the afternoon commute.

A report from the Georgia State Patrol said the Ford Ranger was going north on the interstate approaching Exit 22 at E.E. Butler Parkway just after 5:30 p.m. when the driver, Raul Cadena-Gallardo, age 64 of Atlanta, lost control and the truck overturned into the guardrail.

Officials say Cadena-Gallardo lost control due to the swaying of a utility trailer loaded with lumber that was being pulled by the truck.

The crash then reportedly led to a pileup when several vehicles tried to slow down rapidly and a GMC Yukon was unable to stop in time leading to a series of collisions.

The report from the state patrol did not indicate if anyone was injured in the crash. Social media posts by the Hall County Sheriff's Office indicated that the crash left the northbound side of I-985 shut down for over an hour. Traffic was diverted onto Queen City Parkway while the scene was being worked by emergency personnel.
