Georgia Governor Brian Kemp has extended the deadline for a committee to report back to him with a recommendation on whether or not to suspend Hall County Solicitor General Stephanie Woodard for another two weeks.
The committee now has until August 9 to issue its recommendation to the governor as it examines two dozen felony indictments of theft by taking and making false statements against Woodard. When Kemp initially appointed the committee on July 12, he gave a deadline of July 26 to report back.
The committee is being asked by the governor to make their recommendation based on whether or not the indictment "relates to and adversely affects the administration duties by Ms. Woodard such that the rights and interests of the public are adversely affected."
Woodard filed earlier this week in Hall County Superior Court to try to quash seven of the 24 charges, claiming they are past the statute of limitations. The charges allege Woodard stole thousands of dollars of public money for personal uses between 2018 and 2022.
The committee appointed by Kemp consists of retired Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Georgia Harold Melton, Stephens County Solicitor General Ann Pickett and Fulton County Solicitor General Keith Gammage.
