As schools begin to welcome students back in the coming days, the Hall County Sheriff’s Office reminded drivers how to interact with school buses on the roadway.
The department shared in a Facebook post that not only should they be cautious in school zones, but also should drive slowly in neighborhoods, as there may be children waiting for a school bus.
The Sheriff’s Office also advised those traveling on the roadway that by law, when school buses stop for passengers in a two lane roadway, all traffic must stop from both directions. All traffic must also stop from both directions in a two-lane roadway with a center turning lane.
In a four-lane roadway without a center median separation, all traffic from both directions must stop when the school bus stops. In roadways of four or more lanes with a center turning lane, all traffic must stop from both directions along with the school bus.
Finally, when a school bus stops on a divided highway of four or more lanes with a median separation or barrier, only the traffic moving in the same direction as the bus must stop when the bus stops.
