The Hall County School Board voted Monday to approve the name for the school system’s newest elementary school.

Everwood Elementary School, which will merge McEver Arts Academy and Oakwood Elementary School, is slated to open for the 2025-2025 school year. Everwood’s parent schools are set to close at the end of the 2024-2025 school year.

HCSD Superintendent Will Schofield announced he would recommend the new name on August 8. A committee led by HCSD’s Director of Literacy and Numeracy, Matt Alexander, created the name. “Everwood” was chosen because it combined the names McEver and Oakwood.

Construction on the new facility is already underway at the new school’s location at 5240 McEver Road. While the district has confirmed the school colors will also use red and blue, the two primary colors of each parent school, no mascot has been selected.
