Weather was the story of Friday night, but high school football got started and many games finished.
Two games at West Hall were forced to finish on Saturday as both the Spartans and East Hall completed their games with Seckinger and Banks County, respectively.
The Spartans fell 41-10 to Seckinger in the first game while East Hall scored in the third quarter and then used a goal line stand on the final play to hold off Banks Conty 16-14.
Towns County opened its season on Saturday with an impressive 42-14 win over Murray County on the road to snap the its' 12-game losing streak going back to 2022.
East Forsyth finished off its opening-week rout of Forsyth Central with a 44-10 win on Saturday.
Saturday show a pair of games finish at West Hall. The Spartans completed the second half of their game with Seckinger, falling 41-10 to former coach Tony Lotti. East Hall was scheduled to resume its game with Banks County at 1:30 p.m. with the Leopards leading 14-10 at halftime.
In games that did finish on Friday, Chestatee got a big 27-21 win over Franklin County, while Lakeview Academy knocked off Lanier Christian in the cross-town rivalry, 21-0.
Gainesville won its opener down in Marietta, 41-3. Commerce fell to Wesleyan, while Jefferson couldn't get much going after the weather delay against Marist in a 23-7 loss.
Buford, however, dropped a tough 13-10 decision to defending Class 7A state champion Milton on road in another battle of No. 1s. Rabun County ran away from White County after a lengthy delay, 40-27.
Meanwhile, Jackson County took a big road win at Flowery Branch, 31-2, while Cherokee Bluff took down Class 3A No. 7 Lumpkin County, 31-20, at home.
Stephens County continued its domination over Habersham Central in the two programs' annual border battle in a 21-10 win at The Reservation.
