Man killed by train in Gainesville last weeekend identified

Authorities have now released the name of the man who was hit and killed by a train in Gainesville last Saturday.

The Hall County Sheriff's Office announced Thursday morning that the victim has been identified as Keith Lamont Bryant, age 39.

"Mr. Bryant was part of the homeless community and had been living in Gainesville for the past several years," the release by the sheriff's office said. "He is also believed to have had ties to the Warner Robins area in central Georgia."

Investigators have notified Bryant's next of kin.


Update published Aug. 19 at 3:00 p.m.:

A man died Saturday morning after he was struck by a train in Gainesville.

The Hall County Sheriff’s Office said the victim was walking southbound on the tracks near Dorsey Street and Industrial Boulevard just before 1:30 a.m. while a train was traveling northbound.

Investigators said the train operator sounded warning equipment and could not stop in time. The man died at the scene.

“Investigators said it appeared the victim walked deliberately into the path of the train,” HCSO said in a press release.

According to the sheriff’s office, the man was a member of Gainesville’s homeless community.

The victim's name is being withheld until the next of kin is notified.

A pedestrian was struck by a train in Gainesville early Saturday morning.

In a Facebook post, the Hall County Sheriff’s Office said the incident shut down Dorsey Street for some time but the road was reopened just after 3:30 a.m.

The condition of the pedestrian is unknown.
