Brenau University invested its 11th president on Thursday.
President David L. Barnett was celebrated at an event that included more than 730 students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members who came in support of the new president.
Representatives from the Gainesville and Hall County governments also proclaimed Aug. 22, 2024 as “President David L. Barnett Day.”
Barnett was named as the president in February after serving as the interim. The investiture ceremony officially confers the “articles and symbols of office of the institution” to the president.
“I am humbled to have been named the 11th president of Brenau,” Barnett said. “I’m grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the university’s legacy of high-quality education and service to our students and the community.”
Barnett is a native of Georgia and earned his doctorate in educational leadership and organizational development as well as a specialist in education from the University of Louisville.
A reception followed the investiture ceremony on Brenau’s front lawn.
