Two public schools in Gwinnett County have received  national recognition for their respective counseling programs for a fifth year in a row.

Parkview High School and Ferguson Elementary School were awarded the Recognized American School Counselor Association  Model Program designation.

The ASCA awards the designation, known as RAMP, to schools that show a commitment to delivering data-driven school counseling programs. In 2024, 138 schools in 25 states received the Recognized ASCA designation. These schools will be honored during a special ceremony at the American School Counselor Association’s Annual Conference.

The application process for the designation has ten components, covering the entire school year’s data collection. Each application is judged by a three-person review team overseen by a lead reviewer. Schools that earn scores of 54 or higher out of a possible 60 are awarded RAMP status. Schools that earn a score of 58 or higher after the initial review are designated a RAMP School of Distinction.

The two GCPS schools have received the RE-RAMP status,  which is given to schools that have held their designation for five consecutive years.

“The accomplishment reflects the continuous dedication and hard work of the counselors and administrators at both schools,” Dr. Demetria Williams, Gwinnett County Public Schools’ director of Counseling, College, and Career Services, said. “The RAMP process represents the successful application of the ASCA National Model framework, demonstrating effective student services, program planning, and enhanced student outcomes in the school counseling program. It validates that a school counseling program adheres to the high standards showcasing a commitment to excellence in counseling practices.”
