What's Happening This Weekend: Friday the 13th edition

Hopefully you'll avoid bad luck on this Friday the 13th. Luckily, there are several events to enjoy around Northeast Georgia!

Here is this weekend's list of events:

FESTIVALS & EVENTS

Event Name: Gainesville Parks & Recreation 100 Years Celebration, Gainesville
Event Date & Time: Friday, September 13, 7 p.m.
Event Location: Midland Greenway, Gainesville 
Event Details: Celebrate 100 years of Gainesville Parks and Recreation! There will be a free concert and a fun fireworks show. The concert starts at 7 p.m. followed by fireworks at dusk. The performance will be by The After Party Experience, a fun band that will have everyone on their feet dancing and having fun. It’s free for everyone with local vendors and will be fun for the whole community! There will be a downtown shuttle parking to and from event from the Main Street parking deck at 301 Main St. There’s also street parking near the venue where it’s available. Bring your blanket and chairs.

Event Name: 2024 Flowery Branch Car Show & Bugs at the Branch, Flowery Branch
Event Date & Time: Saturday, September 14, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Event Location: 5302 Railroad Ave., Flowery Branch
Event Details: Flowery Branch is celebrating its 150th birthday and this event will kick off a week of events. The big birthday event will be next Thursday afternoon, September 19, but this will be the start of the fun with a car show – all makes and models will be present. There will be more than 30 trophies, prizes throughout the day, a 50/50 raffle, vendors and a Touch-a-Truck section! Register your car for $20 in advance and $25 in person. Flowery Branch will celebrate their birthday on Main Street on Thursday, September 19 at 4:45 p.m. with live music, birthday cake and vendors.

Event Name: Cumming Art Fest, Cumming
Event Date & Time: Saturday, September 14 – Sunday, September 15
Event Location: Cumming City Center, Cumming
Event Details: The City Center is bringing a new, family-friendly arts festival, along with a Splash Festival! There will be over 100 different artisan exhibitors and a creative Kids Zone for families. There will be vendors at this event. Event Name: Dog Day at the Outdoor Leisure Pool, Cumming
Event Date & Time: Saturday, September 14, 1 – 3:15 p.m.
Event Location: Cumming Aquatic Center, 201 Aquatic Cir., Cumming 
Event Details: Register your dogs for Dog Day! $15 per dog. 1-hr. sessions available. All vaccine records must be submitted. Get tickets at www.cummingaquaticcenter.com.

Event Name: Parents’ Night Out, Cumming
Event Date & Time: Friday, September 13, 6 – 10 p.m.
Event Location: Cumming Aquatic Center, 201 Aquatic Cir., Cumming 
Event Details: Kids play while parents have a night out! The event will be staffed with lifeguards and pizza will be provided. Kids must be between 5 and 13 years of age to attend. Get tickets at www.cummingaquaticcenter.com.

Event Name: Artisan Market, Cumming
Event Date & Time: Saturday, September 14, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Event Location: The Heights, 3790 Post Rd. Cumming, GA 30040
Event Details: Come for a fun day of shopping and family fun! Over 40+ local artisans (indoor and outdoor), a bounce house, food trucks, live music and performances, arts and crafts station for kids, a cake walk and more! This event is rain or shine. It’s free entry with a small donation fee for some activities.

Event Name: North Georgia Regional Book Fair, Dahlonega
Event Date & Time: Saturday, September 14, 9 a.m. 
Event Location: University of North Georgia, Convocation Center, Dahlonega 
Event Details: Over 50 authors will be on site with panels, speakers, silent auction, door prizes, student art sale, and concessions. Free admission. 

Event Name: Buford Corn Maze, Buford
Event Date & Time: Saturday, September 14, 10 a.m. – 11 p.m. + Ongoing Times
Event Location: 4470 Bennett Rd., Buford
Event Details: Hayrides, pony rides, kids corner and so much more fun! Don’t forget about the maze! 

CONCERTS

Event Name: Dancing Dream – Abba Tribute Band
Event Date & Time: Saturday, September 14, 8 p.m.
Event Location: The Arts Council, 331 Spring St., SW, Gainesville 
Event Details: This outdoor concert on the lawn at The Smithgall Arts Center – Rain or Shine! Bring your lawn chairs, picnic blankets or reserve a table up front! $35 for individual tickets. This Abba Tribute Group will have all your favorite hits from “Mamma Mia,” “Dancing Queen,” “Take a Chance,” and more! This group is from Sweden and was featured as one of the top tribute acts in the country! 

Event Name: Songwriters in the Round, Gainesville
Event Date & Time: Saturday, September 14, 7:30 – 11 p.m.
Event Location: Boot Barn Hall, 312 Jesse Jewell Pkwy, Gainesville 
Event Details: Experience the sounds of Nashville with a night of storytelling and music. Kristian Bush, of the county music band Sugarland, will be the featured artist. Kristian is a multi-platinum-selling, two-time Grammy award winner. Doors open at 5 p.m. and the event is only open for ages 14+. Get your tickets online at www.bootbarnhallga.com.

Event Name: Around the World in the DTL, Lawrenceville
Event Date & Time: Friday, September 13  - Saturday, September 14, Various Times
Event Location: Lawrenceville Lawn, 210 Luckie St., Lawrenceville
Event Details: Enjoy this free summer concert series in this two-day event. The Lawrenceville Lawn will be transformed into a vibrant international bazaar, you will be immersed int the sights and sounds and flavors of different countries. There will be live music, dance performances, and other cultural showcases. There will be activities for all ages. 

Event Name: Purple Madness, Prince Tribute, Cumming
Event Date & Time: Saturday, September 14, 7 p.m.
Event Location: Lou Sobh Amphitheater, Cumming City Center, Cumming  
Event Details: Free concert for the whole community. Purple Madness is the #1 Prince tribute in the country. If you love Prince, you will enjoy this concert. No coolers, outside food. Just bring a lawn chair or blanket and your friendly dogs on a leash.  

Event Name: Tyler Hubbard with Special Guests, Alana Springsteen and Tyler Braden, Buford
Event Date & Time: Saturday, September 14, 6 p.m.
Event Location: Buford Community Center, 2200 Buford Hwy. Buford 
Event Details: The City of Buford is proud to announce this year’s fall concert on the concert lawn of the Buford Community Center. Headlining the show will be multi-platinum-selling artist Tyler Hubbard with very special guest Alana Springsteen and special guest, Tyler Braden. Admission is FREE! Gates open at 4:30 p.m. and the concert begins at 6 p.m. Admission is FREE with no tickets required. Food trucks, food tents and bars will be available onsite.
