What's Happening This Weekend: First weekend of fall

The first day of fall is this Sunday, and that means there will be plenty of fall festivals and other events to celebrate the start of the season.

Here is this weekend's list of events:

FESTIVALS & EVENTS

Event Name: Clermont Days, Clermont
Event Date & Time: Friday, September 20 - Saturday, September 21, 
Event Location: 109 King Street, Clermont
Event Details: Join us for Clermont Days 2024! Vendors will be open on Friday starting at 4 p.m. Live music will begin at 7 p.m. Saturday morning will kick off with an opening ceremony at 9 a.m. A parade will be held through Main Street starting at 10 a.m. Vendors, food and live music will be available all day long! Fireworks will start at 9 p.m. on Saturday night. 

Event Name: Flowery Branch Days, Flowery Branch
Event Date & Time: Saturday, September 21, 10 a.m.
Event Location: 5509 Main St., Flowery Branch
Event Details: Celebrating a week of “birthday” fun for Flowery Branch, the festivities will conclude with games, food trucks, live music and more. Join this free, family-friendly event. Fly Betty Band will perform at 7 p.m. 

Event Name: Suwanee Fest, Suwanee
Event Date & Time: Saturday, September 21 - Sunday, September 22
Event Location: 330 Town Center Avenue, Suwanee
Event Details: Suwanee is celebrating a birthday! Suwanee turns 40 with a big community bash. Go back in time to the 80’s with a decked-out, groovy weekend of live music, performance, vendors, booths, food and more. The weekend kicks off with a parade Saturday at 9 a.m. through the new park. Entertainment will include free activities for the kids, concerts every day, family fun and more!

Event Name: Big Red Apple Festival, Cornelia
Event Date & Time: Saturday, September 21, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Event Location: N. Main St., Cornelia
Event Details: Main Street will be transformed with live entertainment, hayrides, train rides, vendors, food trucks, kids zone, cornhole, axe throwing and more! Free to attend.

Event Name: Statham Sunflower Festival, Statham
Event Date & Time: Saturday, September 21, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Event Location: 1892 Railroad St., Statham, GA 30666
Event Details: The Statham Sunflower Festival will support hundreds of local, small businesses. Music, food vendors, a car/truck show, kids’ activities and more will make this fun for the whole family! 

Event Name: Cumming Art Fest, Cumming
Event Date & Time: Saturday, September 21 – Sunday, September 22
Event Location: Cumming City Center, Cumming
Event Details: The City Center is bringing a new, family-friendly arts festival, along with a Splash Festival! There will be over 100 different artisan exhibitors and a creative Kids Zone for families. There will be vendors at this event. Event Name: Fall Fest, Gainesville
Event Date & Time: Saturday, September 21, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Event Location: Atlanta Botanical Gardens, 1911 Sweetbay Dr., Gainesville
Event Details: Celebrate the beginning of Scarecrows in the Gainesville Garden. Enjoy live music, food, activities, performances and more. There will be a fun, family-friendly musical performance at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., as well as a magic show at 2 p.m. Food will also be available for purchase. Event Name: Shore Sweep, Gainesville
Event Date & Time: Saturday, September 21, 8 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Event Location: Various locations around Lake Lanier
Event Details: Join us for the 36th Annual Lake Lanier Shore Sweep. Volunteers can go to one of 14 locations around the lake to et supplies and sign in. Registration is required. Event Name: Smores ‘N Snores, Duluth
Event Date & Time: Saturday, September 21 -  Sunday, September 22
Event Location: Rogers Bridge Park, 4291 Rogers Bridge Rd., Duluth
Event Details: This family-friendly event is the perfect introduction to camping. Enjoy the new park and sleep under the stars. Bring your own camping gear (like a tent, sleeping bag and pillow) and the City of Duluth will provide everything else, like crafts, s’mores, campfires, live music, games and more. Event Name: Pooches in the Park, Braselton
Event Date & Time: Saturday, September 21 – Sunday, September 22, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. 
Event Location: 126 Harrison St., Braselton, GA, 30517
Event Details: Tails will be wagging at this 9th Annual Pooches in the Park on Saturday and Sunday. Bring the whole pack – dogs and kids alike to Braselton Park. Find new pet accessories and treats and chat with professionals, like groomers, vets and boarders. There will be plenty of treats for the pups and the humans. Event Name: Japan Fest Atlanta, Duluth
Event Date & Time: Saturday, September 21 – Sunday, September 22 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Event Location: Gas South Convention Center, Duluth
Event Details: Experience Japan like never before. JapanFest Weekend 2024 will offer a wide array of performances, exhibits, and authentic cuisine. There will be performing arts, a drum troupe, a Samurai Sword Soul, sumo, karate, martial arts demonstrations, and more. Kids will have fun making Japanese crafts and toys. Event Name: 27th Annual Butterfly Release, Gainesville
Event Date & Time: Sunday, September 22, 1 – 4 p.m. 
Event Location: Midland Greenway, 700 Grove St., Gainesville
Event Details: The Annual Butterfly Release is back, thanks to the Gainesville Parks & Recreation. Not only will there be thousands of butterflies, but crafts, exhibitors, food trucks and more!

Event Name: Braselton Brew Fest, Braselton
Event Date & Time: Sunday, September 22, 1:30 p.m. 
Event Location: Braselton Town Green, 9876 Davis St., Braselton
Event Details: Join a lineup of Georgia brewmasters as the Town Green transforms into a hoppin’ beer garden. Ticketholders can partake in unlimited samples of craft beer from over 30 Georgia breweries. There will also be food trucks, live music, lawn games, demos, giveaways and more. Event Name: Gwinnett County Fair
Event Date & Time: Through Sunday, September 22, 
Event Location: Gwinnett County Fairgrounds, 2405 Sugarloaf Pkwy, Lawrenceville

CONCERTS:

Event Name: Lee Greenwood, Gainesville
Event Date & Time: Friday, September 20
Event Location: Boot Barn Hall, 293 W Academy St., SW, Gainesville
Event Details: If you associate Lee Greenwood with the very heart and soul of American patriotism, then you will enjoy a night of singing along. His stand-out hit, “God Bless the USA” has been in the top five on the country singles charts three times. Greenwood has entertained troops on more than 30 USO tours and earned many Top 20 and Billboard Hot 100 spots. Doors open at 5 p.m. and the show begins at 7:30 for ages 14+. Event Name: Brother Jason and the Red Dirt Saints, Cumming
Event Date & Time: Friday, September 20, 7 p.m.
Event Location: Lou Sobh Amphitheater, Cumming City Center, Cumming  
Event Details: Free concert for the whole community. Jason Gardner is described as a new talent with old soul as he plays a little blues, some soul and some country combined. Perfect for all ages. No coolers, outside food. Just bring a lawn chair or blanket and your friendly dogs on a leash.  

Event Name: Tyler Hubbard with Special Guests, Alana Springsteen and Tyler Braden, Buford
Event Date & Time: Friday, September 20, 7 p.m.
Event Location: Buford Community Center, 2200 Buford Hwy. Buford 
Event Details: The City of Buford is proud to announce this year’s fall concert on the concert lawn of the Buford Community Center. Headlining the show will be multi-platinum-selling artist Tyler Hubbard with very special guest Alana Springsteen and special guest, Tyler Braden. Admission is FREE! Gates open at 5:30 p.m. and the concert begins at 6 p.m. Admission is FREE with no tickets required. Food trucks, food tents and bars will be available onsite.
