A man was arrested in Buford after he allegedly robbed a person while they were trying to change their tire.

The Gwinnett County Police Department made the arrest on 28-year-old Johnny Roque of Sugar Hill on Sept. 20 near the Buford Drive and I-985 ramp.

The alleged victim’s niece allegedly flagged down an officer to tell them her uncle had just been robbed at gunpoint.

Officers then set up a perimeter, and the victim told officers that a Hispanic male walked past him on the side of the road and asked for a ride.

When the victim declined, Roque allegedly placed a gun on the victim’s lower back and ordered him to walk near the tree line and then get on the ground.

Roque reportedly took a bank envelope containing a “large amount” of cash from the victim’s pocket and fled on foot.

Another officer on the perimeter located a man walking near the incident location on I-985. He was detained and identified as Roque. A large amount of cash matching the amount the victim was missing was found on him.

Roque was taken into custody and transported to the Gwinnett County Jail without incident.

The officers did return the cash to the victim.
