Georgia High School Association executive director Tim Scott told the AJC on Monday that they are discussing postponing the football playoffs one week.

Several programs across the state are still trying to reschedule games due to Hurricane Helene's impact.

Scott said the GHSA will decide by noon on Tuesday.

“We’re looking into that and working on it right now, trying to figure out what we can do to support our schools and give them some relief,” Scott told AJC's Todd Holcomb on Monday. “It’s not just football. Don’t forget we’ve got girls flag football, softball, volleyball, cross country and cheerleading. We’re looking at all of it.”

Due to availability at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, the high school playoffs already had a week between the semifinals and finals. Originally, the semifinals were set for November 29th, and the finals were set for December 16-18. When ESPN scheduled the annual rivalry game between Georgia and Georgia Tech on November 29 at 7:30 p.m., the day after Thanksgiving, the GHSA pushed the semifinals to the following week (December 6), leaving a historical off week during the playoffs.

If they make the move, here are the dates of each round: November 15 & 16 (first round); November 22 (second round); November 29 (third round); December 6 (semifinals); and December 16-18 (finals).

In the AccessWDUN coverage area, most of the 18 Week 7 games were completed on Wednesday and Saturday. However, two games are scheduled for Monday night. Cherokee Bluff and Oconee County will make up their game on October 16. Lanier Christian and Skipstone Academy are set to play on October 11, and the Dixie, SC-Towns County game was canceled.

According to the AJC, 45 games are postponed with no makeup day, and close to 20 are postponed indefinitely.
