Cold, winter weather conditions are returning to parts of Georgia this week, including some areas of northeast Georgia.
The National Weather Service out of Peachtree City has issued a Winter Storm Advisory for the Hall, Forsyth and Banks County area, beginning on Tuesday morning at 10:00 and continuing through Wednesday, January 22 at 7:00 a.m. It aslo is in effect for counties just north of I-20, while a Winter Storm Warning is enacted for areas along I-20 and further south between Metro Atlanta and the region between Macon and Albany.
Officially, the NWS has listed the details behind the weather conditions:
- The Winter Storm Warning and Winter Weather Advisory have been expanded northward in the latest forecast issuance (see attached image).
- Snow accumulations up to 4 inches are possible in portions of the Winter Storm Warning, with highest amounts forecast in south-central Georgia.
- Snow accumulations of up to 1 inch are forecast within the Winter Weather Advisory.
- Confidence is increasing on the timing and northern extent of snowfall.
- A Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect until 9 AM for north and central Georgia. Another Cold Weather Advisory goes into effect tonight into Wednesday morning.
As of early Tuesday morning, areas in and around Ellijay, Hiawassee, and Clayton are not within a winter advisory, but the National Weather Service does warn of below freezing temperatures for much of the week.
