The Athens-Clarke County Police Department (A-CCPD) has released the identity of the victim from a fatal crash in that area on Wednesday, January 22.
A press release from the A-CCPD Friday says that 33-year old Kendra Sims of Athens succombed to her injuries from the off-road crash in the area of Danielsville Road and Harvey Mathis Road. Investigators have determined her 2003 Chevrolet TrailBlazer encounted a patch of ice along the roadway, exited the road and crashed into a tree. Sims was pronounced dead at the crash scene.

The wreck is the third fatality crash reported with A-CCPD officials in 2025.
The Athens-Clarke County Police Department is investigating a fatal Wednesday crash.
The department said in a Facebook post Thursday officers responded to a single-vehicle accident in the area of Danielsville Rd. and Harve Mathis Rd. just after 4 p.m.
An initial investigation determined the driver of a 2003 Chevrolet TrailBlazer, driven by a 33-year-old Athens woman was traveling along Danielsville Rd. when she encountered a patch of ice on the roadway. The vehicle then left the roadway and struck a tree.
Medical response was called to render aid, but the unnamed woman succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The accident is the third wreck in the area that resulted in a fatality in 2025, according to the post.
