On Wednesday, a coyote tested positive for rabies after a person was bitten in Lumpkin County.
That’s according to District 2 Public Health, who said the person who was bitten has since received medical attention.
A bat was also tested in Forsyth County but was determined an unsatisfactory specimen, so it is considered positive.
D2PH reminded residents of preventative guidelines to prevent rabies.
That includes ensuring pets and livestock have received most current vaccinations, seeking medical care if you suspect rabies exposure, and avoiding interactions with wild animals.
If you are exposed, you should clean wounds with soap and water and seek care immediately. If left untreated, rabies is almost always fatal.
