Forecasters are watching for the possibility of snow in the North Georgia mountains later this week.
Carmen Hernandez with the National Weather Service in Peachtree City said while the system moving across much of the eastern part of the country will primarily bring rain to Northeast Georgia, some of the northernmost counties in the state could see some snowfall Wednesday morning.
"We're looking at as early as 7:00 a.m. Wednesday (for snowfall to begin,)" Hernandez said. "A rain-snow mix mostly...by the time we get to the afternoon, we're looking at mostly transitioning to rain with the potential for rain-snow (mix) still."
Hernandez said there could be some accumulation in the mountain counties, but likely not more than a half-inch. Farther south, any potential snowfall is less likely to accumulate.
Hernandez added that, unlike the last winter weather system to move through Northeast Georgia, freezing rain is not expected to be a risk.
No winter weather watch or warning has been issued for the region by the National Weather Service as of Monday afternoon.
